Light is the source of energy for the universe and is the most important technical aspect of any photograph. The word "photography" derives from Greek and means, literally, "light writing." Fancy cameras, lenses, and bags of gear are irrelevant unless you have the right light;. When a photographer has a good understanding of light, the results can be amazing. Each Saturday session includes power point inspiration, discussion, hands on demonstrations and mini-assignments. This three session series is sponsored by The Newport Art Museum/Coleman Center For The Arts.
1 - “Seeing the Light” on Saturday, February 25th, 2012
Our eyes do magnificent work letting us see things as they are, while eliminating the huge variations in lighting. Cameras see what's actually there, which doesn't help us see what we hope will be an exciting photograph. When you are able to perceive and use the light creatively, you will begin to create compelling images.
Based on 30 years experience in a naturally lighted portrait studio and building on session one, we will create beautiful portraits using natural light both indoors and out. Jan Armor will share tips on capturing beautiful portraits using natural light, so you can advance your technique far beyond the snapshot.
2 - People Photography a la Natural Light, March 3rd, 2012
A workshop on long exposure photography and light painting techniques for unusual and intriguing effects. We will use slow shutter speeds and add light from a battery operated flashlight to literally paint with light.
3 - Night Light with a Digital Camera on Saturday, March 10th, 2012
