Me, Myself & I, The Fine Art Of The Self Portrait

There is a timeless delight in leaving behind a trace of ourselves for posterity. There is also a primal human urge to stand outside of and look at oneself. Who can resist? The cell phone selfies of today follow in the tradition of self-portraits of painters over the centuries. Everyone from the Pope to the Obama girls has posted self-images for the world to see. In this four-session course of  two- hour workshops, we will explore the many possibilities of the self-portrait using the medium of photography. The camera, whether it is a cell phone, a point-and-shoot, or a fancy digital single lens reflex, is a perfect vehicle for this class in which we will investigate famous artists of the selfie including Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Cassatt, Kahlo, Sherman, Warhol, Michaels, and Maier, among others.  Enjoyable (and challenging) homework assignments will be given and your results shared and dissected in class.  Join the fun!
